SINGLES CONFERENCE

This is the reason I haven't been able to blog lately "ST. GEORGE REGIONAL SINGLES CONFERENCE." I was given this calling last February and have been working toward this last week since then. Thanks to the help of a great committee it turned out fabulously (Carmen Snow word), looking back at the last five days I don't think I would have changed anything.
We started off with Temple Night on Wednesday with over a 100 people at the session and then a mingle afterward. Thursday night was sand volleyball and karaoke at Vernon Worthen Park so yours truly sang with Doris Andelin Carley Simon's "You're so Vain" and Anne Murray's "Could I Have This Dance" the crowd shouted encore....enough said. Friday started with entertainment by my amazing cousin John Houston who has more talent that one person should be allowed, needless to say he "rocked the house" (or church in this case) the older people thought it was too loud John only has one volume LOUD, he's amazing thanks for making me look good. Followed by dinner by Honolulu Grill and then a dance with more food until Midnight. Oh I forgot to tell you the stake that was in charge of decorating the cultural hall dropped it back in our laps so we spent several hours decorating the gym and foyers in a fall theme. Trena Wood and I undecorated our houses and decorated the church we had so many compliments it really did look beautiful. Saturday morning we started at 9:00 a.m. with Dana Telford as our keynote speaker...all the Gardner Family know how amazing he is, now 100 or more people know. Then we had workshops, lunch provided by Durangos and then more workshops, the hike started at 3:00 to the petroglyphs (I went home for a nap), then back @ 6:30 to do the sound check for our "St. George has Talent" entertainment. Thanks to Jillian Durham, Sherri Reeder, Brielle Provstgaard, Tacy Hunt, Kristina Kessler, Larry Bennet, Erica Townsend and Dave Grygla who have amazing talent. President Kevin Ence asked me how much I had to pay them because they were so wonderful and I told him nothing they're all friends...it's so fun to know such talented people and call in favors...thanks guys. Dinner by Staheli's-wow what good food-followed by more dancing and MORE food until 11:30. The saying "When Mormon's meet they EAT" certainly held true this week. The problem with decorating an entire cultural hall and two foyers is that at some point you have to take all that "stuff" down and put it back where it came from..ugh. We started Sunday off with Sacrament Meeting @ 10:00 in the Tabernacle I was the first speaker and gave a little synopsis of my life and expressed how grateful I am for my "experiences" Brother and Sister Nadauld (DSC President) gave amazing talks and President Ence closed the meeting with the perfect talk for single people telling us not to be so critical of ourselves and be happy with the good job we are doing (in a nut shell). Next on the party agenda was box lunch by Jimmy Johns out at the Town Square. It was such a perfect venue they have cool little tables and benches all around so people could eat and chat. At 7:00 (or 6:00) for me we were back to the Tabernacle for a Musical Fireside, I had put a program together (with the help of my club girls) with narratives from Music and the Spoken Word and then Hymns to go along with each topic. My amazing adopted son AJ Mellor was our narrator I led the music and Doris Andelin played the piano...A HUGE SUCCESS....SHORT, SWEET AND RIGHT TO THE HEART!! AJ was the hit of the show with his booming bass voice he had everyone awestruck! Back out to the Town Square, yes you guessed it, MORE FOOD they lovingly call them single mingles.
I got the best compliments from so many people I felt like the conference was a huge success...would I do it again...NOT ON YOUR LIFE....was it a growing experience...ABSOLUTLEY. I loved the advice from President Beckstrand's wife Elaine, she told me that if they asked me to do it again to tell them I didn't need to practice again because "I got it right the first time." Big thanks to all my friends for they're help and support Love ya'all!!!
